All our charcoal is made within the woods from our own sustainable resources. It’s made following traditional methods and prepared by happy people sitting round a fire sharing stories and ideas. We carefully select suitable material made available through our woodland regeneration work. Each branch is debarked and cut to length by hand, then cooked over the very same fire that keeps our volunteers warm and boils our kettle whilst we work.
Buying our charcoal helps fund our woodland regeneration work, educational events and volunteering activities. We hand select the finest charcoal for sale and donate all the less than perfect bits to schools and craft groups. Our charcoal is packaged in recycled, unbleached packets or boxes and is further protected by a bed of wood shavings (also a byproduct of our woodland work).
We create charcoal from a range of species, all with their own individual characteristics. Availability will change depending on what species we are thinning, pruning or coppicing at the time. We currently have available charcoal made from Oak, Western Hemlock, Willow, Chestnut, Hazel and Birch; please select which species or combinations you would like when ordering.
